Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- The Midway women's volleyball team saw their win streak come to an end on Tuesday night after suffering a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-23, 26-24) at the hands of Oakland City (Ind.) in a River States conference matchup.
After watching the Mighty Oaks, who improved to 15-9 overall and 13-5 within the RSC with the win, post a .484 hitting percentage in the opening set, the Eagles picked it up defensively in the second and third sets.
A kill by Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.) gave the Eagles a 23-22 lead in the second, but Oakland City closed the set on a 3-0 run to claim a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 second set victory.
It was a similar story in the third frame where Midway held a 20-18 lead and a 23-22 advantage, but they were unable to close the set strong as Oakland City completed the sweep with a 26-24 win in the final frame.
Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) was the lone Eagle to reach double figure kills with 13 to go with her eight digs. Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) added nine and Brink chipped in eight.
Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 15 assists and carded eight digs, while Kylie Kohrs (Fort Thomas, Ky.) led the defensive effort with a team-high 17 digs. Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan), meanwhile, recorded 14 digs in a losing effort.
The Eagles, who fall to 13-12 overall and 7-10 within the RSC, will now return home to Marshall Gymnasium for a pair of home matches to end the season. The first of which is set for Thursday, Nov. 2, when Midway hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) at 6 p.m. ET.
