Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - Hoping for one last impressive win to improve its postseason resume, the Midway women's volleyball team instead ran into the buzzsaw that is 14th-ranked Indiana Kokomo, falling 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 in the final game of the regular season Friday night.
The Eagles were competitive in every set. They held leads in the second and third and put together a 5-0 run after IUK pulled ahead 23-14 in the final set.
But there wasn't enough fire power to overcome a Cougar team that is now a full month removed from the last time it even lost a set. With a win at Indiana Southeast Saturday, Kokomo will complete a perfect 19-0 run through conference play.
Aubry Koester had 10 kills, Valerie Ramos 15 assist and Anju Sugiya 11 digs to lead Midway, which concludes the regular season with a record of 14-13 overall, the program's fourth-consecutive winning season.
The Eagles finish 8-11 in River States play and will have to await the results of Saturday's action to see if they secured one of eight spots available in the RSC Tournament.
Using a conference-mandated scoring system far too complicated for the simpleton writing this recap, the Eagles entered the day in ninth place with 2.944 points, behind Shawnee State (3.647) and IU Southeast (3.441) and just ahead of Ohio Christian (2.778). Final scores will be tabulated at the conclusion of play Saturday.
