Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway women's basketball team was back in action on Thursday night when they welcomed IU Southeast (Ind.) to Marshall Gymnasium for Senior Night in their final home game of the regular season.

The Eagles trailed by as many as 10 in the first half and would face a six-point deficit at intermission before outscoring the Grenadiers 51-32 in the second half en route to the 88-75 victory to pick up their 20th victory of the season.

Chris Minner's squad runs their winning streak to nine following the win as they improve to 20-7 overall and 15-2 in River States Conference play. The win also locks up the RSC West Division for the second straight season for the Eagles.

The Eagles got a pair of buckets from Sereniti Webb (Covington, Ky.) and Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) and a triple from Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) as they sprinted to a 7-0 lead less than two minutes in.

A few minutes later, White and Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) connected on back-to-back triples giving Midway a 17-9 lead forcing the visitors to call a quick timeout. The final five plus minutes of the quarter saw the Eagles score just two points as IU Southeast closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 20-19 lead after 10 minutes of play.

The Grenadier lead reached it's largest of the game at 41-31 with just over two minutes left in the half following a 7-0 run. Luckily for the Eagles, Mucker – who scored 12 points in the first half – sank a pair of triples in the final minutes to cut the deficit to 43-37 at intermission.

The third quarter saw Dezeree White start to take over. The senior guard scored just five points in the first half, but she came alive in the third scoring 18 points hitting 7-of-9 from the floor. The Eagles outscored IUS 26-12 in the frame as they took a 63-55 lead into the fourth.

Midway shot a scorching 66.7 percent from the floor in the final stanza as they soon pushed their lead to double figures before using a 9-0 run to build their largest lead of the game at 76-59 with just over six minutes left in regulation.

The Grenadiers immediately answered with a 12-0 run cutting Midway's lead to single digits with just a couple of minutes left. They would get within six, but Midway would hit 7-of-10 at the free throw line in the final minute to clinch the 88-75 victory.

Dezeree White led the way for the Eagles with a monster double-double. She hit 12-of-19 from the floor finishing with 31 points and 14 rebounds. White also added four steals and four assists to her stat line. Aleigha Mucker, meanwhile, added 15 points in the win.

Keia McCullogh, a senior from Nashville, Tenn., turned in a solid effort with eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while Mi'lan Miller, a senior from Houston, Texas, chipped in eight points, seven assists, and four rebounds in a winning effort.

Midway is set to wrap up their regular season on Saturday (Feb. 18) when they travel to Richmond, Ind. for a River States Conference matchup with IU East (Ind.). Midway won the first meeting, a 76-63 victory in Marshall Gymnasium on Dec. 10, 2022.
