Eagles extend win streak to 10 following road win at IU East

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Midway women's basketball team hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 18) when they traveled to IU East (Ind.) for a River States Conference matchup on Lingle Court.

The Eagles took a five point lead after one quarter and would continue to add to their lead as they would cruise to the 82-54 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their winning streak to 10 as they finish the regular season with a 21-7 mark overall and a 16-2 record in RSC play. The Red Wolves, meanwhile, fall to 12-16 overall and 11-7 in league play with the loss.

The Red Wolves scored the first points of the game, but Midway quickly answered with a 7-0 run taking a 7-4 lead. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) tied the game and Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) nailed a triple before Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) capped the run with a layup off an assist by White.

Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) broke a 16-all tie before Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) hit 2-of-2 at the charity stripe giving her team a 21-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.

IU East got within four near the end of the second quarter, but Midway closed the quarter 12-2 run as they would take a 42-28 lead into the locker room. Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) scored six in the run and Daugherty scored four, while Miller hit a layup in the final minute of the half.

The run extended to 17-2 after Mucker opened the third quarter with a triple and Dezeree White hit a jumper of her own giving Midway a 47-28 advantage. IU East got within 13 in the third, but Midway extended the lead back to 20, 61-41, entering the final stanza.

The final frame saw the Blue and Gold shoot a game-high 52.6 percent from the floor, while they held the Red Wolves to a 31.3 percent shooting mark. Midway would lead by as many as 30 before cruising to the 82-54 victory.

The Eagles had 12 players etch their name in the scoring column, while three of those reaching double figures. Dezeree White led the way with 15 points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals. The senior also hit 6-of-13 from the floor.

Midway got 47 points from their bench led by the duo of Amoni White and Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.). White scored 13 points, while McCullogh finished with 10. Mi'lan Miller, meanwhile, recorded eight points, five assists, and five steals in the victory.

Midway shot 44.2 percent from the floor, while they forced the Red Wolves into 33 turnovers and held the home team to just 32.2 percent shooting.

Chris Minner's squad is now scheduled to host the RSC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday (Feb. 22) inside Marshall Gymnasium.
