Eagles extend winning streak to seven with road win at IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Following an easy home win over Brescia (Ky.), the Midway women's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday night for a River States Conference matchup at IU Kokomo (Ind.) inside the Student Activities and Events Center.

The Eagles would lead by as many as 16 in the first half and would take a 36-30 lead into the locker room before hanging on for the 67-55 victory pushing their win streak to seven.

With the win, Midway – who has won 17 of their last 19 – improves to 18-7 overall and 13-2 in RSC play. The Eagles currently hold a one-game lead over Oakland City (Ind.) in the RSC West Division with three games to play.

The Blue and Gold got off to a strong start shooting 50 percent in the first quarter as they would take a 20-10 lead after 10 minutes of play. They also forced the Cougars into seven first quarter turnovers.

A bucket by Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) broke a 4-4 tie in the first quarter and would spark a 7-0 run. Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) would score six straight points for the Eagles as she scored nine points in five minutes off the bench in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) hit a layup that capped a 6-0 run as Midway took their largest lead of the contest at 27-11 with 7:38 left in the first half.

The Eagles would continue to lead by double figures throughout the half until the Cougars (2-22, 2-13 RSC) closed the second frame on an 8-0 run cutting the deficit to 36-30 heading into the locker room.

A triple from Kristen Ridner got IU Kokomo within three less than two minutes into the third, but Midway held the home team without a field goal for over five minutes. The scoring drought allowed the Eagles to take a 48-42 lead into the fourth.

Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) came alive in the fourth quarter scoring six straight points sparking an 8-0 run that stretched the lead back to double figures giving Midway the breathing room they needed as they would eventually hold on for the 12-point win.

Dezeree led the way for the Eagles with 16 points in the win. Amoni White added 13 points off the bench, while Aleigha Mucker finished with 13 points and five steals. Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) carded her third double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The visitors lost the rebounding battle, 39-30, but forced the Cougars into 26 turnovers which led to 36 points on the offensive end.

Midway is set to return to action on Saturday (Feb. 11) when they welcome St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) to begin a two-game homestand. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
