MIDWAY, Ky. -- Recently, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the names of the 2023 Daktronics Scholar-Athlete teams for spring sports.
The Midway University athletic department was well represented with 53 student-athletes named to the teams in their respective sports.
Leading the way in the classroom was the baseball team with 12 student-athletes recognized. Softball had nine players receiving honors while men's track & field saw eight student-athletes be named to the team.
The Midway women's golf team boasted seven honorees which was tied for the second most in the NAIA. Men's tennis and women's track & field each had five honorees and men's golf had three, while women's tennis and men's volleyball each had two earn the honor.
The following student-athletes were named to the 2023 Daktronics Scholar-Athlete teams:
Baseball: Graduate students Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) and Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.), senior Skyler Lucas (Elizabethtown, Ky.), juniors CJ Johnson (Murray, Ky.), Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.), Noah Branham (Versailles, Ky.) and sophomores Cameron Head (Salem, Ky.) Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.), Josh Halterman (Lexington, Ky.), Kaleb Adams (Somerset, Ky.), Kobie Nauert (Louisville, Ky.), and Tyler Case (Versailles, Ky.).
Softball: Graduate student Mary Andres (Louisville, Ky.), seniors Madison Ludwig (Louisville, Ky.) and Lauren Lingafelter (Haubstadt, Ind.), juniors Carly Jones (Bardstown, Ky.) Katie Rhodes (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) and Ashley Ward (Lexington, Ky.), and sophomores Sarah Jo Calhoun (Campbellsville, Ky.), Sidney Hudnall (Cromwell, Ky.), and Kennadi Thompson (Louisville, Ky.).
Men's Track & Field: Seniors Cameron Wallis (Henryville, Ky.), Chase Baker (Hodgenville, Ky.), Jacob Kocis (Island Pond, Vt.), and Luke Logan (Elizabethtown, Ky.), junior Montez Moore (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomores Josiah Kocis (Island Pond, Vt.), Rausch Gill (Louisville, Ky.) and Kyler Adams (Wetumpka, Ala.).
Women's Golf: Senior Sydnee Beard (Campbellsville, Ky.), juniors Catie Kelly (Shelbyville, Ky.) and Emilie Hill (Frankfort, Ky.), and sophomores Bree Russell (Glasgow, Ky.), Brookelyn Hopkins (Somerset, Ky.), Haley Case (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) and Lauren Nolty (Grayson, Ky.).
Men's Tennis: Graduate student Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia), senior Spencer Counts (Crum, Texas), junior Owen McCarter (White Bluff, Tenn.), and sophomores German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) and Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon).
Women's Track & Field: Seniors Autumn Belcher (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Cassidy Schrecongost (Pittsburgh, Pa.), junior Nevaeh Brown (Louisville, Ky.), and sophomores Abby Cunningham (Morris, Ill.) and Trinity Smith (Florence, Ky.).
Men's Golf: Senior Chase Taylor (Winchester, Ky.), junior Cameron Turner (Jackson, Ky.), and sophomore Jacob Stevens (Somerset, Ky.).
Women's Tennis: Juniors Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) and Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.).
Men's Volleyball: Junior Colton Marsh (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Daniel Cogo (Padua, Italy)
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, the student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at said institution.
