Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After playing their first six games outside of conference play, the Midway women's volleyball team opened River States Conference play on Tuesday, September 12, when they welcomed Brescia (Ky.) to Marshall Gymnasium.

The Eagles won the opening two frames handily before coming from behind and winning an extended third set to clinch the 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-16, 28-26).

With the win, Kennedy Mang's squad improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Bearcats slip to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in RSC play.

It was a stellar outing for Midway's offensive attack tallying a season-high 49 kills. They also committed just 12 miscues in their 103 swings to notch a .359 hitting clip. Brescia, meanwhile, managed just a .138 hitting clip in their 87 swings.

Trailing 3-1 in the first frame, Emma Krutsinger (Corbin, Ky.) served a pair of aces to help fuel a 10-0 run that saw Midway take an 11-3 lead. The Eagles would also card 17 kills in the first set where they posted a .481 hitting percentage to win the set 25-14.

The second set saw Brescia use a 5-0 run to forge a tie at 15-all, but the Eagles responded with a 6-0 run of their own to take a 21-15 advantage. Meghan Adams (Paducah, Ky.), who finished with eight kills and a .583 attacking clip, put down a kill to clinch the 25-16 win and a 2-0 lead.

Midway faced a 17-11 deficit in the third frame but would put together a furious rally down the stretch. They fought off a set point trailing 25-24 before getting back-to-back kills by Adams and Emily Slaughter (Gallatin, Tenn.) to clinch the sweep with a 28-26 third set victory.

It was a balanced attack for the Blue and Gold with four players recording at least eight kills, Aubry Koester (Apple Valley, Calif.) had 13 kills and eight digs, Slaughter chipped in 11 kills and six digs, and Hannah Brink (Greenville, Mich.) recorded eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage.

Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 38 assists to go with her seven digs, while Kylie Kohrs (Fort Thomas, Ky.) tied the team-high with eight digs. Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) and Krutsinger, meanwhile, each carded seven digs in the win.

The Eagles are back in action on Thursday, September 14, when they traveled to IU Kokomo (Ind.) for another RSC matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.
