Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway looked out of sorts for much of the night, and Oakland City (Ind.) took advantage, hitting over .300 in each set en route to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 sweep of the Eagles in a River States volleyball matchup Tuesday night.
Consecutive kills by Anju Sugiya and Emily Slaughter kick-started a 4-0 run that gave the Eagles a 10-6 first-set lead. But the Mighty Oaks countered by scoring five straight and held control the rest of the way. The Eagles committed six errors during Oakland City's closing 19-10 run and were out-hit .324 to .237 in the set.
The Oaks carried that momentum into the second set by jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Though the Eagles did battle back to briefly pull ahead 11-9, Oakland City again closed in dominant fashion, scoring 12 of the final 15 points in set two.
OCU then completed the sweep with relative ease, as the Eagles finished set three with more attack errors (seven) than kills (six).
Valerie Ramos had 15 assists, while Sugiya had 12 digs to lead Midway, which drops to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the RSC.
The Eagles look to get back on track when they travel to face Indiana Southeast at 7 p.m. Friday.
