Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - The attack of River States East-leading Indiana East was too strong for Midway to overcome, as the Red Wolves never trailed en route to a 25-13, 25-20, 25-13 sweep at Marshall Gymnasium Friday night.
A night after recording a season-best .376 hitting percentage in a sweep of Georgetown a night earlier, the Eagles finished with a negative-.045 percentage Friday. It marked the first time they finished in the negative since a Nov. 20, 2021 game against Point Park (-.012).
IUE dominated the net in the opening set, out-hitting Midway .440 to .000. Brooke Lepper led the way with six kills on nine attacks, as the Red Wolves built a big lead despite River States kill leader Jessica Swim not recording her first until the score was 22-12.
The Eagles kept things close in set two, winning a pair of lengthy points during a 6-1 run that got them within 18-16. But the Red Wolves answered by scoring the next four points and Midway finished the set with more attack errors (seven) than kills (five).
Things weren't as competitive in a third set that saw East score the first eight points. The Red Wolves finished the night with a 44-16 edge in both kills and assists.
Aubry Koester led Midway with 10 assists while tying Emily Slaughter with a team-high six digs.
The Eagles fall to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the RSC. They look to halt a five-match conference losing streak when they travel to Columbus, Ind. for their first ever meeting with IUPUC
