DANVILLE, Ky. - Midway's women's swim team welcomed two high-end teams to Versailles on Saturday before traveling to Danville, Ky. to take on Centre in a packed second weekend of action.
The Eagles lost 174-58 to Lindsey Wilson and 173-52 to Indiana Wesleyan Saturday. Despite a 133-87 defeat to Centre Sunday, things went smoother as the team came away with wins in six events.
SATURDAY
Josie Briner led the way for the Eagles Saturday with a narrow, second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Briner finished in 1:00.90, just 0.11 seconds behind Chloe Hogue of Indiana Wesleyan for first place.
Briner and Sammy Friel also got third-place finishes for Midway, Briner swimming the 100 freestyle in 2:04.32, Friel the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.64.
SUNDAY
Briner had an even better day Sunday. She won the 50 free in 26.32, the 100 fly in 1:02.89, and the 200 medley relay with Kaelynn Martin, Friel and Katie Heath in 1:59.43.
Friel, Martin and Amber Klose earned individual wins as well. Friel won the 500 free in 5:50.83, Martin the 100 free in 58.47 seconds and Klose the 100 breast in 1:15.19.
Klose narrowly defeated teammate Katie Heath in the 100 breast, with Heath touching the wall in 1:15.72. That was one of two events in which Heath was the runner-up, as she also came in second in the 1,000 free in 12:24.62.
Midway, which opened the year with 12 wins in 12 events at Pikeville, will face Shawnee State and West Virginia Tech in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 26.
