NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Aubry Koester narrowly missed her second 20-20 performance of the year, and Midway made enough plays late to come away with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 15-8 win over Indiana Southeast in a River States women's volleyball matchup Friday night.
Koester finished the night with 23 kills and 19 digs. She, appropriately, got the final point of the night, securing the five-set win with a kill off a Marinna Liedle assist in the fifth set to help the Eagles snap a three-match losing streak and get back to .500 in conference play at 5-5.
Liedle helped to effectively set up the attack all night, recording a career-high 31 assists.
Koester also had plenty of help from fellow senior hitter Emily Slaughter, who had 14 kills while leading all players with 21 digs.
The pair was particularly crucial in closing out the third set. After a 21-17 lead was cut to 21-20, Midway put together a 4-0 run, with Koester recording two kills, one of which came off an assist by Slaughter, who added a kill and a service ace during the rally.
Blair Riney added 16 digs while Meghan Adams had three blocks for the Eagles, who are now 10-11 overall.
Midway will stay in the greater Louisville area tomorrow for the Boyce Tri-Match. The Eagles face the host Bulldogs at 11 a.m. before taking on Cincinnati-Clermont at 1 p.m.
