MIDWAY, Ky. - A dominant week-seven performance has earned Midway senior linebacker Gavin Lay the Midwest Sprint Football League's Defensive Player of the Week award.
Lay was all over the field in a 25-12 win over Walsh on Saturday, recording six tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. His tackles for loss accounted for 28 negative yards and he also had a strip sack in the second quarter.
The senior from Bellevue, Ky. has 28 tackles and seven tackles for loss on the season.
He is Midway's first ever Defensive Player of the Week award winner and the second Eagle to win a weekly MSFL award. Punter Preston Moore was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this season.
The win over Walsh landed Midway the No. 4 seed in the upcoming MSFL Playoffs. The Eagles will travel to West Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday to face top-seed St. Mary of the Woods at 2 p.m.
