BECKLEY, W.V. – West Virginia Tech exploded for three goals in the opening 4 minutes, 16 seconds of action, delivering an early knockout blow in a 5-0 win over Midway in the opening round of the River States Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday.
The Eagles, who qualified for the tourney as the No. 6-seed, had their season end with the loss.
The third-seeded Golden Bears, who won the RSC championship a season ago, came out in attack mode, with Vasco Berardo scoring off a put back just 2:29 into the first half.
A minute and 10 seconds later, Christian Piewe scored to make it 2-0, before Berardo scored again just 27 seconds after that.
Tech was just as good defensively, preventing Midway from getting a off a shot until there was less than five minutes to play.
The Eagles conclude the 2024 season with a record of 5-11-2.
