WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - In a high-scoring men's basketball matchup, the University of Cumberlands (Ky.) defeated Midway 118-93 on Wednesday.
Though it stayed close for awhile, Cumberlands, which has been ranked in the top-10 nationally and are receiving votes in the most recent NAIA poll, pulled ahead thanks to its size. The Patriots dominated in the paint, recording 20 second-chance points and holding a 76-36 advantage in points in the paint.
Midway kept pace with the Patriots in the first half, coming within six points (52-46) at the close, but foul trouble would not allow the Eagles to keep pace.
Midway was led by
Jalen Cincore, who scored 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
Amari Wales also had a solid performance, contributing 20 points and seven rebounds, his second 20-point game in a row.
However, Midway struggled with shooting efficiency in the second half, hitting just 42 percent of their field goals after shooting 47 percent in the first half. Meanwhile, the Patriots shot a blistering 63 percent and scored 66 points in the second half.
The Eagles' next contest will prove to also be challenging as they travel to face NCAA Division-I Cleveland State for an exhibition match on Dec. 22nd.
