Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Five players scored in double figures, but Midway was unable to overcome an early offensive onslaught by Indiana Southeast, as the Grenadiers earned an 84-79 win in a critical River States Conference women's basketball matchup Thursday.
Aside from some turnover issues, the Grenadier offense was virtually unstoppable during an opening 20 minutes in which it shot 71 percent from floor. After hitting 10-of-13 field goal attempts in the second quarter, IUS took a 54-45 lead into halftime.
The Grenadiers were able to keep the Eagles at arm's length into the fourth quarter before they mounted a response. Down as much as 10, Midway cut the deficit to 75-71 after Atlantis White hit 3-pointers on back-to-back-possessions, both off of assists from Jaiden Douthit.
It wasn't just distributing where Dothit thrived Thursday, as she put in a season-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Trinity Johnson also had her highest scoring output with 15, with White (14), Jermyra Christian (10) and Jacie Chesser (10) also finishing in double-figures, with Chesser also grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
White scored 11 of her points in the fourth quarter and made it a four-point game again when her third triple of the quarter cut the deficit to 80-76 with just under two minutes to play.
The Eagles would get it within four two other times, but never closer, and a Kate Durbin free throw followed by a Midway 3-point miss brought about the final 84-79 score.
IUS closes out RSC play 8-10 while also securing a season sweep over Midway, which heads into its regular season finale against Indiana East Saturday with a league mark of 7-10.
Midway, which defeated IU East 80-78 on a buzzer-beater Feb. 3, should still be in good position to host a River States Conference Tournament game with a win Saturday in a game that tips at 1 p.m.
