Box Score MIDWAY, Ky - Down some key pieces against a quality opponent, the Midway women's basketball team had no answer for Oakland City Tuesday night, as the Mighty Oaks topped the Eagles 102-67 at Marshall Gymnasium.
Jalaya Dowell lived up to her reputation as one of the River States Conference's best players, asserting her dominance down low with 22 points and 13 rebounds, six of her boards coming on the offensive end.
The Oaks, who improved to 12-1 in the RSC and are currently receiving votes in the NAIA national poll, out-rebounded the Eagles 60-36 and finished the night with 26 second-chance points.
Midway's top two scorers came off the bench. Jermyra Christian had 15, while freshman Jenna Phelps, seeing some of her most extended action of the season, scored a career-high 12.
Jacie Chesser also had 10 points. Bree Howard led all players with five assists while Atlantis White had a game-high four steal for the Eagles, who fall to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in the River States Conference.
Midway looks to rebound Saturday in a 2 p.m. road matchup against Brescia (Ky.). The Eagles defeated the Bearcats 77-50 in the teams' first matchup on Dec. 2.
