MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway put together a late 3-0 run to close out a thrilling 14-25, 25-15, 25-16, 14-25, 15-12 win over River States Conference foe West Virginia Tech in women's volleyball Saturday.
For four sets, the match proved to be an uncompetitive as a competitive matchup could be, as each set was decided by nine points or more.
Fresh off an 11-point loss in set four, the Eagles found themselves in a 9-6 hole following a 6-1 Bear run.
But Midway would respond with strong net play, pulling ahead 12-10, thanks in part to getting kills by Alyssa Medeiros, Aubry Koester and Emily Slaughter on consecutive points.
The Golden Bears then rallied to tie the score at 12, before Slaughter had another kill to make it 13-12. Nyla Gaines then recorded with a service ace before Paige Miles set up Meghan Adams for the decisive kill, lifting the Eagles to a 2-1 mark in the RSC.
Koester finished with 18 kills and 16 digs, Marinna Liedle had 23 assists while Slaughter had a team-best four aces.
The Eagles continue their home streak with consecutive River States games next week, starting with a 7 p.m. matchup against Rio Grande (Ohio) at 7 p.m.
