MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway overwhelmed Indiana Columbus early, jumping out to a 29-4 lead at the end of the first quarter before taking a 99-52 win in a River States Conference matchup at Marshall Gymnasium Thursday evening.
The 47-point victory is the Eagles' biggest since a 109-38 blowout against Carlow on Jan. 27, 2022, and they did it despite having no player score more than 11 points.
Of the 16 players who saw action, 15 scored with 11 contributing at least five points. That group was led by the 11 of
Atlantis White and
A'Lyrica Hughes and the 10 off the bench from
Jacie Chesser.
As efficient as the offense was, the defense was even better. The Eagles forced 30 turnovers, including 12 in the first quarter, as the Crimson Pride had no answers for Midway's swarming full-court press.
Hughes had five steals while
Jermyra Christian had four as Midway forced 20-plus turnovers for the 13th time this season.Â
Elsewhere,
Jenna Phelps had eight points and seven rebounds in just 13 minutes, while
Norah Miller scored eight points while playing just five.
The Midway bench outscored IUC 68-15, as
Maddie Nipper also added eight points with
Annabelle Babb and
Paige Medley both scoring seven.
Fellow reserves Chesser and
Sarah Baker also grabbed seven boards as 44 of the Eagles' 53 rebounds came from bench players.
The Eagles are now 12-9 overall with a 6-3 mark in conference play. They'll look to go for a third-consecutive win at Indiana Southeast on Saturday at 3 p.m.
