COLUMBIA, Ky. - Midway wrestling earned four wins in a 28-15 loss to in-state, Mid-South Conference foe Lindsey Wilson Friday.
Those wins were by
Christopher Sperin (149),
Chris Begley (157),
David Emfinger (197), and
Aaron Garcia (heavyweight).
After three strait losses to ranked opponents, Sperin had a big job ahead of him to chang the momentum of the evening.
He came out strong in the first period with an early takedown and strapped a saddle on Lindsey Wilson's Drake Montelongo for the rest of the first period.
He would dominate the rest of the match, never giving up a takedown. He would succeed in changing the momentum as he finished the match in a dominate decision, 10-3.
The momentum would continue into the 157-pound bout as Begley would come out and pin Nicholas Hejke 2 minutes, 13 seconds into the first period. The pin would bring the dual score to 16-9.
The next three matches were hard fought, but Midway wouldn't pick up another win until 197.
Both Emfinger and Garcia finished off the dual with decision victories.
The Eagles are back on the mat Saturday at the Cumberland Open in Lebanon, Tenn.
