MIDWAY, Ky. -- Midway's men's wrestling team will start off their 2026-27 campaign with a home match against Rochester Christian on Friday and the Pepsi Patriot Open on Saturday.
Head Coach Cole Smith is in his second year at the helm. Coach Smith said intensity is something they are focusing on for the new season.
"Preseason went well," said Coach Smith, "we focused on only a few particular skills and techniques."
133-pounder Alex Velazquez, 157-pounder Andrew Berkon, 184-pounder Sebastian Hutchinson, and 285-pounder Aaron Garcia are all players looking to make an impact this season.
The Eagles will also look to get contributions from new players coming into the program.
"We have alot of new faces this year, headlined by transfer Samuel Mullins," said Coach Smith on new wrestlers that will make an impact. "Germain Velasquez, Thomas Sang, Canon Prince are freshmen who we are excited about as well."
The Eagles are kicking off their season with a huge road tournament.
"The Pepsi Patriot Open is definitely one of the bigger name tournaments," said Coach Smith, "especially for the first semester."
