BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Lucas Hall qualified for the NAIA National Championships at 141 pounds, highlighting Midway's day at the Mid-South Conference Men's Wrestling Championships on Friday.
The Eagles finished seventh with 42.5 points. The University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) won with 168 points, just ahead of second-place Cumberland (Tenn.) which scored 165.5.
With five national spots available at his weight class, Hall got the last one with a fifth-place finish. He clinched via an opening-round win over Nick Moore of Campbellsville.
Hall will compete at the National Championships in Wichita, Kan. on March 5-7.
Four other Eagles placed but none were able to earn national spots.
The closest near miss came at 197 pounds. With three spots available,
Stephen Browning reached the third-place match, but suffered a pinfall loss to Marcus James of Georgetown. Browning advanced with a consolation-round pin of Ashton Simison of Rio Grande.
Zach Lewis also placed fourth at 125, a class with only two national spots available, while
Alex Velazquez, who scored an opening-round pinfall at 133, placed fifth in a class with three national spots .
