MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway pulled close with three-consecutive wins before No. 23 Georgetown closed in dominant fashion to earn a 34-15 victory over the Eagles in a Mid-South Conference men's wrestling dual on Tuesday.
Trailing 18-0, the Eagles surged thanks to back-to-back pins by
Christopher Sperin and
Michael Colligan. Sperin pinned Jeremy Mills at 2:16 at 157 pounds, while Colligan pinned Sam Daniels with just five seconds remaining in their 165-pound match.
Aidan Karpinski then made things even tighter with a 13-7 decision over Keenan Shively at 174, making the score 18-15.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the next three wrestlers sent out by the Tigers are ranked in the top-20 nationally. The trio proved worthy of their rankings, earning a pinfall and two tech falls to close out the night.
The Eagles fall to 2-9 overall with an 0-5 mark in the Mid-South Conference. They have one more difficult match to close out the regular season, as they travel to face No. 8 Campbellsville at 7 p.m. Thursday.
