MIDWAY, Ky. - A 38-25 closing rally helped Midway pull away for a 95-79 win over Miami Middletown (Ohio) for its first win of the 2025-26 win of the men's basketball season Monday.
Leading 57-54 with just over 12 minutes to play, the Eagles finally gained some separation by scoring 15 points in the span of six possessions, all by
Tim Fuller and
Amari Wales.
Fuller hit two 3-pointers in that stretch, while Whales slashed to the basket for two layups, hit another jumper, them made all his free throw attempts after being fouled on a 3-point shot.
Wales finished with 19 points and six assists, with 16 of those points coming in the final 12 minutes.
He was one of five Eagles to score in double-figures, joined by
Decoreio Smith (16),
Maurice Washington Williams (14), Fuller (13) and
Sam Parrish (13), with Parrish also adding a team-best seven rebounds off the bench.
The Thunder Hawk offense shot nearly 60 percent for the game, but Midway was able to make up some of the difference by forcing 20 turnover, which led to 27 points.
Now 1-1 on the season, the Eagles will play their first road game at 3 p.m. Saturday, staying in the state of Kentucky to take on Alice Lloyd.
