TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Midway's
Carson Milner wrapped up a record-setting season with an 80th-place finish out of 307 runners at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Friday morning.
Milner, the third Eagle to qualify for the national race as an individual, ran a time of 25:43.6. His 80th-place finish is the second highest by a Midway runner at the championships, trailing only
the 70th-place performance of
Jacob Kocis in 2024.
Things started a bit slow, as Milner was in 162nd place 1,170 meters in, before consistently edging his way up in the field. At each of the next seven markings, his position improved and he got all the way up to 76th with one kilometer to go.
Though he did drop four spots in the final standings, his 3-minute, 13-second split from the 7K mark to the end was actually a two-second improvement from the previous kilometer. The time difference between Milner and 78th-place Jeremiah Lanum of Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) was just a half-second.
This was
the first ever national appearance for the junior from Walton, Ky., who set program records in both the 6K and 8K during the season.
He will now look to duplicate his success during the track and field season. Milner currently holds four combined records between the Eagle indoor and outdoor programs.
