LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Midway baseball fell to 1-2 on the season after losing to Huntington (Ind.) and No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett Saturday.
Huntington (Ind.) 3, Midway 1
Huntington was the first to strike. Taking the early lead, scoring once in the second, again in the third, and once more in the fifth. Midway responded with a lone run in the fifth, courtesy of a single from
Eli Glasscock that brought in
Ayden Sciandra.
The Eagles had a great opportunity to strike again in the sixth, as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. But Huntington reliever Mason Meyer was inserted into the game and escaped the jam with a strikeout.
This was recurring theme, as the Eagles left nine runners on base.
Glasscock went 2-for-4 for the game, while Sciandra added a hit and a stolen base.
On the mound,
Jackson Lee took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs.
Dylan Burton struck out six batters in 3.2 innings of work.
Georgia Gwinnett 15, Midway 4
The No. 3-ranked Grizzlies proved themselves worthy of their ranking as they defeated Midway 15-4. Despite an early two-run lead in the first inning, Midway couldn't contain Georgia Gwinnett's offensive explosion, as it platted five runs in the second and another four in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Midway's offense improved from the first game, scoring in multiple innings.
Barrett McGill went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while
Peyton Henry also drove in a run with a double.
Glasscock contributed in this game as well going 1-for-3 and scoring twice.
Josh Halterman added an RBI single in the fifth, while
Mahrlon Torres had a strong game with two hits, including a double.
The Eagles return to the state of Georgia next weekend for a three-day series against another ranked opponent, No. 6 Reinhardt. The series begins at 3 p.m. on Friday.
