Women's basketball season ends in RSC Tournament opener

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The momentum of a fast start dwindled quickly as Midway crumbled in the third quarter, falling behind by as much as 30 in a disappointing, season-ending 86-73 loss to Brescia in the opening round of the River States Conference Tournament Wednesday night.

The Eagles led by as many as 10 in the first quarter and were ahead 17-8 on a Trinity Johnson jump shot with 3:17 to play in the first quarter.

But the Bearcats proceeded to outscore the Eagles 31-14 the rest of the half. Midway at one point missed eight-consecutive shots before a late Jacie Chesser layup made it 39-31 Bearcats at halftime.

Things only got worse in the third quarter. Brescia shot 10-of-15 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line, while Midway was 3-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-10 from the line, getting out-scored 31-11 and eventually falling behind 74-44 before a late run.

Jermyra Christian led the Eagles with 16 points and tied Chesser for the team lead with eight rebounds. Playing in their final college games, Kassidy Daugherty and Atlantis White both scored 15 points.

Midway's season ends with a record of 16-13.
