MIDWAY, Ky. - A strong passing performance by freshman
Jordan Daily wasn't enough, as Midway men's volleyball lost a 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 final to River States Conference foe St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) at Marshall Gymnasium Saturday.
The Eagles actually had one of their most efficient attacks of the season in the opening set, finishing with a .474 hitting percentage. Unfortunately, the Pomeroys countered with a .480 while having six more kills (16-10) and attacks (25-19) than Midway in the set.
Midway never led past 1-0 in either of the first two sets, but were able to put together a 7-5 advantage in the third, following a
Jose Conde kill,
Jai'Den Chinnis ace and SMWC attack error on consecutive plays.
But the Pomeroys proceeded to score the next four points, taking the lead for good at 8-7 at the end of a marathon point, where both teams made multiple diving saves before a Midway attack attempt landed out by inches.
In the loss, Daily finished with 22 assists, one short of his previous career high, while also leading the team with five digs.
This came after the first-year setter had 21 assists and five digs against Brescia on Friday.Â
Each Midway starter had at least three kills, with Conde leading the way with seven.
The Eagles fall to 1-12 overall with an 0-8 mark in the RSC. They will take a break from conference action Wednesday, hosting Franklin College (Ind.) at 6 p.m.
