MIDWAY, Ky. - Six innings of frustrations nearly boiled over for Midway baseball on Tuesday, when an apparent
Eli Glasscock home run was ruled to have been a foul ball.
So when the Eagles finally had a breakthrough seventh inning, it was only fitting Glasscock got to deliver the final blow.
Trailing 2-1, Midway put together a 10-run seventh, which concluded with a Glasscock grand slam, as the Eagles got back to .500 with a 12-3 non-conference win over Thomas More Tuesday.
After an opening six innings that included seven runners left on base, a runner thrown out at home and the disputed home run that was ruled a foul ball, the Eagles had 10-consecutive batters reach base. The scoring started when Glasscock walked and scored on a double by
Peyton Henry that tied the game 2-2.
It was the second RBI for Henry, who drove in the game's first run on a first-inning fielder's choice.
Three of the next four runs were scored via bases-loaded walk, the other coming on a pinch-hit single by
DJ Morain. Bases-loaded free passes have greatly benefited Midway as of late, with the Eagles scoring seven times on such plays during a three-game win streak.
After an error made the score 7-2, Glasscock came through
with his second grand slam of the season, highlighting a monster day in which he reached base in all five of his plate appearances.
This marked the most runs the Eagles have scored in an inning since
a 12-run performance in the sixth of a 19-7 win over Alice Lloyd on March 3, 2024.
Josh Halterman added two hits, while
Grant Hotchkiss scored twice.
On the mound, starter
Cade McKee had two strikeouts, faced the minimum number of batters in three innings of work and was one of five Midway pitchers to not allow a run.
Dalton Soergel got the win to improve his record to 3-0 on the season.
Now 14-14 on the season, the Eagles are back to .500 for the first time since they were 1-1.
They are back home for a three-game River States Conference series against Indiana Kokomo in the RSC Series of the Week on Friday and Saturday. Currently, a single game is scheduled for Friday with a doubleheader Saturday, though weather could lead to an adjustment in scheduling.
