NEW ALBANY, Ind. - After losing the doubles point, Midway responded by dropping just one set in singles play, running its River States Conference record to 2-0 with a 6-1 women's tennis win at Indiana Southeast Friday.
The first and third singles spots were won by virtually identical scores, while the fifth and sixth spots were won by the same scores.
Agustina Olivero defeated Maci Vaughn 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while
Tanit Cevada beat Anellah Trujillo 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.
Sofia Rueda defeated Elana Hamby at No. 5 while
Angelia Herrera topped Sydney Adams at No. 6, both winning by finals of 6-2, 6-2.
Mara Guillen won comfortably as well, beating Kate Halbig 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
Nana Hishida overcame a 6-3 loss in the opening set by winning 6-1, 6-2 in the second and third to rally past Grenadier No. 4 Ivy Hasenour.
Olivero and Guillen also earned Midway's lone doubles win with a 6-2 triumph against Trujillo and Hamby.
The Eagles improve to 6-2 overall leading into their biggest match of the regular season, as they host Oakland City on April 4.
The Mighty Oaks have defeated the Eagles in each of the last two River States Conference championship matches.
