Men's tennis loses tight battle with UT Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. - Midway got wins at the last three singles positions, but couldn't overcome an early deficit in a 4-3 loss to Tennessee Southern on Monday.

German Collado had his second perfect night in a row to open the spring season. He defeated Rage Matuck 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and teamed with Ferran Clapes for Midway's lone doubles win, a 6-4 victory at No. 2 against Nick Rosa and Felipe Dias.

The first, fifth and sixth singles matches all went three sets, with Midway getting wins at Nos. 5 and 6.

After a 6-4 loss in the opener, Daniel Pinzon won 6-2 in the second set then won a marathon third set 14-12 at the fifth spot over Brock Hamilton.

At No. 6, Aleksey Granitsa dominated the first set 6-0 against Oscar Moreno, then after losing 6-4 in the second, rallied to win 10-8 in the third.

The Eagles will play the second of a three-match-in-three-day stretch Tuesday, staying in Pulaski, Tenn. to face Blue Mountain (Miss.).
