OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - Midway softball struggled to find offensive consistency and surrendered a pair of big innings in losing two River States Conference softball games to Oakland City by the finals of 6-3 and 6-2 Tuesday.
GAME ONE: OAKLAND CITY 6, MIDWAY 3
After falling behind 3-0, the Eagles tied the game off an RBI single by
Tenley Gilbert and a two-run single by
Sawyer Snodgrass in the third inning.
The score would remain tied until the sixth, when OCU scored two runs by virtue of three doubles. Baylee Rhodes led off the inning with a double then scored off another by Hannah Wissel two batters later.
Three batters after that, Emma Williams doubled home Wissel for the game's final run.
Gilbert and
Madison Hill both had two hits for Midway.
GAME TWO: OAKLAND CITY 6, MIDWAY 2
A Snodgrass RBI double gave Midway a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Mighty Oaks responded with five runs in the bottom half.
Midway would be playing catch-up the rest of the way, mustering just one more run on a
Sierra Bittner RBI single in the third.
Gilbert had three more hits to lead the 10-20 Eagles, who drop to 5-13 in the RSC.
Midway will take a very challenging break from conference play Wednesday when in-state foe Cumberlands, the No. 4 team in the NAIA, comes to town for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
