Women's Tennis continues dominant run through RSC with win at IU East

RICHMOND, Ind.- The Midway University women's tennis team delivered a flawless performance Friday afternoon, rolling to a 7-0 sweep over Indiana East in a dominant River States Conference showdown.

Midway wasted no time asserting itself in doubles play. The top pair of Mara Guillen and Agustina Olivero set the tone with a swift 6-1 win over Gracie Helms and Brooke Schafstall.

At No. 2, Tanit Cevada and Sofia Rueda mirrored their teammates with an identical 6-1 victory against Lexi Swauger and  Chantelle Mapondera.

A match at No. 3 featuring Midway's Angelia Herrera and Nana Hishida, was declared a no-result due to incomplete pairing on Indiana East's side.

The Eagles carried their momentum into singles action, winning all five completed matches in straight sets.

At the top of the lineup, Olivero overwhelmed Brooke Schafstall 6-1, 6-0, while Guillen followed with a clinical 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Cevada continued the trend at No. 3, dispatching Gracie Helms 6-0, 6-1.

One of the most competitive matches came at No. 4, where Nana Hishida edged out a tight 7-6 first set before pulling away for a 6-2 win in the second.

Sofia Rueda handled her business efficiently at No. 5, cruising past Swauger 6-1, 6-0.

Midway's flawless outing marks the fourth win in the River States Conference this year. They will finish up the weekend at IU-Kokomo tomorrow at 1 p.m.
