KOKOMO, Ind. - With a showdown for the River States Conference title ahead next week, Midway women's tennis managed to focus on the task at hand, earning another resounding conference win Saturday, this time triumphing 7-0 over Indiana Kokomo.
After splitting at the first two doubles spots,
Nana Hishida and
Angelia Herrera clinched the point at the No. 3 position with a 6-4 win against Mia Federspill and Kennedy Perrin.
The Eagles then earned a sweep in singles play, losing just one set in the process.
After beating Ava Allen and Reiley Hiser 6-0 at No. 1 doubles,
Agustina Olivero and
Mara Guillen topped the duo in singles. Olivero beat Allen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 with Guillen beating Hiser 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2.
Tanit Cevada and
Sofia Rueda bounced back from a loss at No. 2 doubles with easy singles wins. Cevada defeated Chloe Schmidt 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 with Rueda winning her 10th-consecutive singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Federspill at No. 5.
Elsewhere, Hishida won 6-2, 6-4 against Perrin at No. 4 and Herrera overcame a 6-2 opening-set loss to Graciella Solis at No. 6 with 6-4 and 10-3 wins in the last two.
The red-hot Eagles are 9-2 overall and have won six straight matches. They've also been dominant in the RSC, holding a 31-1 scoring advantage during their 5-0 start.
The top-seed at the conference tournament will but up for grabs when fellow unbeaten Oakland City (Ind.) comes to Midway for a match at noon on Wednesday.
Before that, Midway will travel to nearby Georgetown for a non-conference match on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
