MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway's perfect record in the River States Conference was ended by the No. 19 team in the country, as Oakland City topped the Eagles 7-0 to earn the top seed at the RSC Men's Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
With the win, the Mighty Oaks finished the season 5-0 in conference play, while Midway concludes with a record of 4-1. Both teams will get a bye to the RSC Tournament semifinals, which begin in Evansville, Ind. on April 25.
OCU breezed through doubles play, dropping just two total games. The Eagles would then win just one set in singles play, as
Ferran Clapes overcame a 6-3 opening-set loss to defeat Samarbir Sidhu 7-6 in the second at No. 3.
Sindhu then found his footing in the third set tie-breaker, winning 10-3.
Prior to the match, Midway held a senior day ceremony, sending off soon-to-be-departing players
Axel Sperling,
German Collado,
Keshav Rathi,
Aditya Roy and
Jordan Patterson.
Weather permitting, the Eagles will have one more home match against a nationally ranked opponent to prepare for the postseason. The No. 15 University of the Cumberland will come to Midway for a non-conference match Saturday.
