OWENSBORO, Ky. - Midway baseball closed the regular season with a dominant 8-0 win at Brescia on Sunday while locking up the No. 5 seed at the upcoming River States Conference Tournament.
Barrett McGill broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the top of the third inning and it was all Midway from that point on.
Grant Hotchkiss had three hits and three RBIs, while
Grant Stone scored three runs.
Eli Glasscock and
Ayden Sciandra both had two hits, with Sciandra scoring twice, his second run via a seventh-inning home run.
That was plenty for three Midway pitches who combined on a six-hit shutout.
Dylan Burton struck out four with just one walk and three hits over five innings to get the win.
Dalton Soergel scattered three hits in two innings before
Jesse Komoroski retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth, three of which were via strikeouts.
Midway finishes the regular season with a record of 21-23 and a 12-12 mark in the RSC.
The fifth-seeded Eagles begin the double-elimination RSC Tournament against No. 4 Indiana Kokomo at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1. The Cougars, who finished with a conference record of 12-11, swept a three-game series in Midway on March 28-29.
All games will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
