MIDWAY, Ky. - A wild seventh inning proved to be the turning point as Midway baseball erased a two-run deficit with an eight-run outburst en route to a 12–9 comeback win over Lindsey Wilson College.
With the victory, Midway improved to 16–18 on the season, while the Blue Raiders dropped to 5–28.
Midway trailed 5–3 heading into the bottom of the seventh before flipping the script in a dramatic fashion. Peyton Henry launched a two-run homer to tie the game at five, and from there, the Eagles took full flight.
Wild pitches brought in two more runs, and Grant Stone delivered the crushing blow — a grand slam that gave Midway an 11–5 lead. The Eagles added another run on a Scott Kendrick double.
Lindsey Wilson put up a spirited rally in the ninth, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 12–9, but the comeback fell short as Dalton Soergel closed the door to earn his second save of the season.
Jesse Komoroski (1–5) earned his first win of the year for Midway, tossing three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts.
Midway had a balanced attack with 10 hits from eight different players. Henry went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Stone made his mark off the bench with his first homer of the season — and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Both teams were active on the basepaths, with Lindsey Wilson stealing six bases and Midway benefiting from aggressive baserunning and four wild pitches by the Blue Raiders.
After winning two straight, the Eagles will play their first River States Conference games in two weeks, starting with a doubleheader at Oakland City on Saturday. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
