Men's cross country opens year with win as medalist Milner dominates

WILMORE, Ky. - Carson Milner settled into his new role as Midway's top runner nicely and the Eagle men's cross country team got off to an excellent start with a win at Asbury Friday night.

Medalist Milner was nearly a minute faster than the entire field at the Eagle Opener, as Midway came away victorious with 23 points. Asbury finished with 32 while Kentucky Christian competed but did not record a score.

A multi-time winner and 1,500-meter run conference champion in track and field, Milner easily earned the first win of his cross country career Friday, finishing in 16:26.04. That was more than 56 seconds faster than Asbury's Daniel Kersey, who took the runner-up spot in 17:21.28.

Midway had great balance as well Friday, with Connor Byrd, Jonathan Kocis and Lance Logan finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively. Byrd ran a 17:45.92, Kocis an 18:01.71 and Logan an 18:07.57.

Adam Higgs completed the scoring in 10th place with a finish of 19:00.48. Ridge Revers finished one spot behind Higgs in 19:19.13 with Noah Hampton running a 19:43.93 to take 13th.

The Eagles will look to keep things going next Friday at the Panther Prowl in Owensboro, Ky.
