MIDWAY, Ky. - The Midway women's basketball team boasted an aggressive defense and plenty of depth on Tuesday to overpower Kentucky Christian, handing the River States Conference opponent a 96-79 defeat.
The Eagles got off to a strong start by forcing turnovers that turned into points, ending the game with 47 points off of 31 Knight turnovers. Leading the charge were A'Lyrica Hughes and Trinity Johnson, who had nine and seven steals respectively.
The offense also teed off against a KCU defense that entered the night giving up the fourth-most points per-game in the country.
All told, four Eagles scored in double figures, led by Johnson, who tied her season high with 15 points. Alexis Taylor added 14 with Hughes and Morgan Cross adding 13 and 12.
Kentucky Christian made several efforts to catch up, turning a 19-4 Midway deficit into a 26-25 second-quarter lead, only for Midway to score nine straight points and hold the lead the rest of the game.
The third quarter was crucial in helping the Eagles increase their lead, which paved the way for a decisive final quarter.
