BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Midway men's volleyball team concluded a busy opening stretch at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational, losing a pair of three-set matches Friday.
The Eagles fell 25-17, 25-12, 25-16 to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) and 25-16, 25-13, 25-14 to host Olivet Nazarene.
MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE 3, MIDWAY 0
The Eagles led in every set, but never by more than a point and they were unable to keep up with a red hot Cougar team that hit .619 in the first set and .706 in the second.
Noah Fichter had 15 assists and two aces while
Lincoln Anderson had nine digs to lead the Midway offense.
OLIVET NAZARENE 3, MIDWAY 0
The Eagles scored the first point of the match, but that proved to be their only lead.
Hitting proved to be a major difference again, as Midway had a negative-.143 percentage for the match.
Anderson again led the team with 11 digs while Fichter had nine assists, setting up
Luke Wallace and
Jaden Alston, who tied for the team lead with five kills.
Now 0-4, the Eagles travel to Frankfort to face Kentucky State on Tuesday before hosting Spalding at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the home opener.
