Eagles Fall to IU East in Return to Midway Turf Field

MIDWAY, Ky. — The Midway University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Indiana University East on Thursday afternoon at Midway Turf Field in River States Conference (RSC) action.

The Eagles returned home for the first time since Sept. 13, looking to build on their 2-0 victory over Kentucky Christian in their conference opener.

With the loss, Midway falls to 3-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in RSC play, while IU East improves to 6-4-3 overall and remains unbeaten in conference action at 3-0-0.

IU East controlled much of the offensive possession throughout the opening half, outshooting Midway 11-1.

Despite the pressure, Midway goalkeeper Lillian Klee kept the Eagles within striking distance, recording five first-half saves.

The Red Wolves finally broke through with just 35 seconds remaining before halftime. Lily Hart scored her third goal of the season at the 44:25 mark to give IU East a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.

Midway looked to respond in the second half, generating three shots after recording just one in the opening 45 minutes.

However, IU East continued to apply offensive pressure, attempting 13 second-half shots.

The Red Wolves doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Mia Runyan converted a penalty kick at the 64:47 mark for her third goal of the season.

Trailing 2-0, the Eagles continued searching for an opportunity to cut into the deficit, but IU East goalkeeper Cameela Walters stopped all three shots she faced to preserve the shutout.

Klee turned in a strong performance in goal for Midway, finishing with 14 saves while playing all 90 minutes. She recorded nine saves in the second half alone.

IU East finished with a 24-4 advantage in total shots and a 16-3 edge in shots on goal. Both teams recorded two corner kicks.

The loss snapped Midway's one-game winning streak following its shutout victory over Kentucky Christian on Oct. 1.
