WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Midway softball suffered a pair of decisive losses to two quality teams at the Patriot Classic Saturday, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands.
The Eagles were no-hit in a 9-0 defeat to a Campbellsville team receiving votes in the national poll, then lost 11-2 to No. 7 Cumberlands in the late game.
GAME ONE: CAMPBELLSVILLE 9, MIDWAY 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
The Eagles had no answer for Emma Markham, who struck out eight in four innings while allowing just two base runners via walk.
Midway kept things scoreless through two innings, before the Tigers blew the game open with an eight-run third inning.
GAME TWO: CUMBERLANDS 11, MIDWAY 2 (FIVE INNINGS)
After getting shutout
in a pair of 8-0 losses to Cumberlands earlier in the week, the Eagle offense brought home a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
Down 5-0 in the top of the fifth,
Ella Baum drove in a run on a fielder's choice before
Diamond Wills drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to three. But that was immediately answered by six Patriot runs in the inning's bottom half to make it a run-rule game.
Midway (0-6) is currently slated to host Union in a doubleheader with game one slated to start at 1 p.m. Tuesday.Â
