Gottler leads Eagles at Lindsey Wilson Women's Open

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- As she has throughout the season, Trinity Gottler led the way for the Midway women's wrestling team at the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) Women's Open on Saturday in Columbia.

The junior from Frankfort, Ky., posted a 3-2 record and made a run to the consolation semifinals before suffering a loss to the 12th ranked wrestler in the 160 pound weight class.

After receiving a bye to begin her run, Gottler advanced to the quarterfinals following a 9-2 victory over Ta'jai Broadnex. In her quarterfinal match against Sofia Vergara, Gottler suffered a pinfall loss and dropped to the consolation bracket where she rattled off a pair of victories.

The first of her two wins in the consolation bracket came via a 6-2 decision against Alexzandriyah Kekoanui of Emmanuel (Ga.). She then advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket after posting a pinfall victory over Anaya Stringer of Brewton-Parker (Ga.).

Unfortunately for Gottler, her run came to an end after suffering a tech fall loss to Kylee Tait of Campbellsville (Ky.), who is ranked No. 12 in the NAIA at 160.

The Eagles will have less than two weeks off before returning to action on February 20 when they compete in the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green.
