MIDWAY, Ky. - The Midway men's tennis team won its third-consecutive match in decisive fashion Tuesday, taking down Georgetown 6-1 at home.
The Eagles got dominant wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
Ferran Clapes Ballart and
Izan Casado beat Zachary Thompson and Thomas Dwyer 6-1, while
Shimpei Yazuka and
Aleksey Granitsa topped Kerman Ararnayo and Dallas Baker 6-2.
With the double's point already clinched, the No. 1 team of
Ricardo Starosta and
Mudiwa Munyimani completed the sweep by winning a 7-6 thriller over Alex Stragier and Leo Schirmer.
Four of Midway's five singles wins then came in straight sets. Starosta beat Thompson 6-4, 7-6; Cpales Ballart topped Schirmer 7-5, 6-3, Munyimani beat Stragier 6-1, 6-2 and Yazuka defeated Rex Roof 6-1, 6-2 at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 respectively.
Arguably the most exciting singles match came at No. 6, where
Manuel Mirabal won a 12-10 marathon tie-breaker to defeat Aramayo in the third set. Mirabal won the opening set 6-4 with Aramayo taking the second 6-3.
Now 3-1 overall, the Eagles are scheduled to return to River States Conference play at home against Indiana East on Friday at 11 a.m., though projected showers may move the match to later in the weekend.
