MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway stayed perfect in the River States Conference with a dominant, 6-1 win over Indiana East in men's tennis on Sunday.
Ferran Clapes Ballart and
Izan Casado got a 6-3 win over Jace Wilkerson and Juan Diego Balao at No. 2 doubles, before the No. 1 team of
Ricardo Starosta and
Mudiwa Munyimani clinched the point with a 7-6 win against Sachin Vanaraja and Andrea Klaric.
Singles proved to be smoother, as the Eagles earned four of their five wins in straight sets.
Munyimani beat Balao 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2,
Aleksey Granitsa topped Bryce Wennen 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4,
Manuel Mirabal clinched the team win with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph against Connor Burk at No. 5 then
Tyler Fox closed out the night with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Clay Connor at No. 6.
Clapes received a major challenge against Vanaraja at No. 1, winning the first set 7-6 before dropping the second 6-2. But with the match on the line, Clapes rose to the occasion with a 6-2 win in set three.
It was the fourth win in a row overall for the 4-1 Eagles who are 3-0 in the RSC.
They will take a break from conference play to face one of the best teams in the country on Tuesday, in a 2 p.m. road matchup against No. 5 nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson.
