MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway took a break from River States Conference play, earning a decisive 6-1 win over visiting Georgetown in women's tennis Tuesday.
The Eagles started the day off with a doubles sweep.
Alicia Sanglas Sanglas and
Emma Pheiffer won 7-5 at No. 1,
Raigan Allbert and
Tanit Cevada Cruz won 6-1 at No. 2 and
Haley Thompson and
Caitlin Wright won 6-4 at No. 3.
That group then accounted for all five of Midway's singles wins, with four of them being in straight sets.
Sanglas had the easiest go at No. 1, defeating Molly Archer 6-0, 6-1.Â
Cruz defeated Anna White 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Allbert topped Pyper Wasch 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 and
Caitlin Wright took down Maggie Blevins 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6.
At No. 2 singles, Pheiffer handled Abby Moss 6-1 in the first set before dropping the second 6-4. Undeterred, she rebounded with a 6-3 triumph in the final set.
The Eagles have now won three in a row and are 3-1 on the season.
They are currently slated to host RSC matches against Indiana East on Friday and Indiana Kokomo on Saturday, though weather could lead to Friday's match being moved to a different day.
