WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - A four-hour rain delay and a nationally ranked opponent was too much for Midway to overcome, as the Eagle women's tennis team's five-match win streak was halted with a 7-0 loss to No. 12 Cumberlands on Wednesday.
An already daunting task got even harder as the Eagles only had five available players, forcing them to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.Â
Things got even more challenging when play began, as the Patriots dropped a grand total of one game combined in singles positions No. 3, 4 and 5.
Emma Pheiffer had the most competitive showing at No. 2, where she lost 6-4, 6-3 to Mahiro Hara. At No. 1,
Alicia Sanglas Sanglas lost 6-4, 6-1 to Haruna Kojima.
The 5-2 Eagles have another tough non-conference road test on Friday, when they travel to face Campbellsville (8-4).Â
