MIDWAY, Ky. - After behind honored as part of senior day, Caitlin Wright and Haley Thompson helped Midway secure a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over visiting Asbury in the final women's tennis home match of the 2026 season.

Prior to play starting, Wright, Thompson and Raigan Allbert were honored for what was the final home match of their college careers. Wright and Thompson then ended their time in great fashion, helping pull Midway out of a 3-2 hole.

It started at No. 5 singles with Wright, who overcame a 7-5 opening-set loss to Isabella Sanchez by winning set two 6-3. Wright then dominated a third-set tiebreaker, winning 10-4 to leave the fate of the match up to No. 6 singles.

Against Cara Clark, Thompson easily won the first set 6-1 before losing the second 6-4. But in a much more competitive tie-break, Thompson was able to clinch the win by gutting out a 10-8 victory that also guaranteed a winning season for the Eagles.

That was one of four singles wins in the match, the other coming from Emma Pheiffer and Tanit Cevada Cruz at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively.

Cruz easily handled Alexandra Garcia 6-1, 6-2, while Pheiffer, after a 6-2 first-set win, overcame an uncharacteristic 6-0 loss in the second by beating Ariadna Zegarra 10-7 in the tie-break.

Pheiffer and Alicia Sanglas Sanglas also won at No. 1 doubles, narrowly topping Katherine Nova and Garcia 7-6.

Now 7-4 on the season, the Eagles will travel to Oakland City Saturday at noon in match that will determine the regular season champion of the River States Conference.

Both teams will come in 5-0 in conference play.
