MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway baseball team returned to action Friday, hosting No. 22 IU Southeast in its penultimate River States Conference series at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.
In the RSC Series of the Week, the Grenadiers secured the series victory with a doubleheader sweep, taking game one 14-4 and game two 8-7.
With the results, Midway falls to 24-18 overall and 13-10 in conference play. The series will conclude Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, which will also serve as Senior Day for the Eagles.
GAME ONE: IU Southeast 14, Midway 4
Midway carried a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning after scoring once in the sixth and twice in the seventh.
Logan Janiszewski highlighted the seventh with an RBI single, while
Taylor Voorhees also drove in a run earlier in the contest.
On the mound,
Tyler Pyles was sharp, allowing just one unearned run over six innings while striking out eight.
IU Southeast broke the game open in the eighth, scoring 10 runs to pull away.
The Eagles finished with 11 hits, with Janiszewski,
Grant Stone, and
Alex Scoular each recording multiple hits.
GAME TWO: IU Southeast 8, Midway 7
The Eagles responded to an early 4-0 deficit, scoring in five different innings to stay within reach.
Midway plated two runs in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth and sixth before a two-run seventh cut the deficit to one.
The Eagles threatened late, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate in the sixth and loading the bases in the seventh, but were unable to capitalize.
Janiszewski and
Pedro Morales each recorded two hits, while
Max Jewusiak and
Grant Stone drove in runs.
