NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Midway softball season concluded with a pair of losses in a River States Conference doubleheader at Indiana Southeast on Thursday.
The Eagles lost the opening game 10-4 before falling 10-0 in the finale. They close the season with an overall record of 11-36 and a conference mark of 9-27.
GAME ONE: IUS 10, MIDWAY 4
Trailing 5-1 entering the fifth inning, the Eagles scored three times to get within 5-4.
Ella Baum brought home two with a double before
Owyn McCoy had an RBI single two batters later.
But the Grenadiers immediately responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, recording five hits and also taking advantage of two Midway errors.
McCoy and
Peyton Henderson both had two hits for the Eagles.
GAME TWO: IUS 10, MIDWAY 9 (5 INNINGS)
The Eagles had just two hits in game two, both of them by senior
Payton Baum, who was 2-for-2 in her final game as an Eagle.
DELONG CLOSES HISTORIC YEAR
Midway sophomore
Randi Delong, who had one hit in six at-bats Thursday, closed out one of the best seasons by an Eagle in at least 20 seasons.
Since 2007, the earliest year full program stats were available, Delong's .449 batting average and 55 runs batted in are the most by a Midway player. She was also second in that stretch in home runs (14), extra-base hits (29), slugging percentage (.823) and doubles (16) while finishing third in hits (66).
