CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Midway won the doubles point and forced three sets in four singles matches, but unfortunately only won one of them in a 5-2 non-conference loss to Campbellsville in men's tennis Friday.
Ricardo Starosta and
Mudiwa Munyimani started things off with a 6-3 win over Derrick Namanya and Artur Yakubova at No. 1 doubles.
Ferran Clapes Ballart and
Izan Casado then clinched the point with a thrilling 7-5 win over Mariano Orsini and Rikuto Towata at No. 3.
Starosta then ran his No. 1 singles record to 6-0 with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win over Alex Martin.
Singles spots 2, 3 and 4 all went to third sets as well, but each was dominated by the Tigers, who lost just three total games in the decisive sets.
Elian Walther beat Ballart 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 2, Juan Ochoa beat Munyimani 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 and Yakubova topped
Aleksey Granitsa 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
The loss drops Midway to 4-3 overall on the season. Before returning to River States Conference play, the Eagles travel to face Cedarville (Ohio) for a 4 p.m. match Wednesday.Â
